I am obsessed with this Honey Mustard Chicken recipe. The marinate of honey, butter, dijon mustard, and paprika coats the chicken to perfection, and makes for an incredible delicious + healthy meal.
Chicken served with honey mustard is one of my favorite combinations. The sauce is a perfect blend of sweet and tangy flavors, PLUS it’s also boyfriend approved, so it must be good!
The inspiration behind this dish was on a Sunday afternoon when I was craving Chick fil A’s chicken nuggets + honey mustard sauce. As we know CFA isn’t open Sunday’s, so I had to come up with my own plan! That’s where this Honey Mustard chicken recipe was born.
The best part might be how simple this is to make.
This recipe should only take you about 20-30 minutes! Plus, it ONLY has 9 ingredients total, and I’m certain you have each ingredient in your pantry already!
I love to serve this chicken dish alongside sweet potatoes, a salad, or my favorite veggie. Summertime calls for fresh veggies, so I recommend trying this one with green beans, roasted broccoli, or cauliflower!
Ingredients
- Chicken Breast – I love to use chicken breasts, they’re lean and come boneless which makes it so simple. If you wanted a juicer cut, you could use chicken thighs as well.
- Honey – any honey will do, I always have it on hand at my house!
- Mustard – dijon mustard is best, but really anything you have on hand should work. Yellow mustard might make the chicken quite yellow though. As long as that doesn’t bug you, use it!
- Butter – butter adds a creaminess to the marinate, and when you cook it on the stove, gives the chicken a crisp skin.
- Cayenne Pepper – cayenne will add some spice to the chicken, if you’re not a spice person, use less or omit completely!
- Parmesan Cheese – I buy the official stuff, parmigiano reggiano from Costco! We use a lot of parmesan, so we go for the good stuff!
How to Make Honey Mustard Chicken
1. Marinate the chicken – combine the honey, butter, dijon mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Add chicken breasts, toss until evenly coated. Cover + set in fridge.
2. Cook chicken + preheat the oven –pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Pre-heat a skillet and add 1 Tbsp olive oil. Add the chicken into the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes per side.
3. Finish chicken in oven– when the chicken internal temperature reaches 150 degrees F, place the chicken on a foil lined sheet pan and top with grated parmesan, bake for 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F.
4. Allow chicken to rest – remove from the oven and allow the chicken to rest for 2 minutes. Serve alongside your favorite veggie or side salad + enjoy!
